A conference with a difference..
We’ve done a fair bit of events coverage over the years, and when it comes to academic conferences.. well I think let’s be fair to one another – they’re undoubtedly lively, inspirational, collaborative events for their own respective subject areas, but when it comes to visual interest – well it’s not exactly a fireworks display. “What’s that? You want more imagery of smartly dressed delegates looking at a powerpoint..”
So when we were approached with a job to cover a conference that lasted for 5 weeks, you can imagine the raised eyebrows that Spencer and I exchanged. (Spencer has very nice eyebrows incidently for anyone out there into that sort of thing.) Our initial concerns proved to be unfounded, for the Saudi Aramco Summer Conference hosted at Coventry University was a fuse of activity-based learning, inspirational talks, entrepreneurial challenges, simulated disaster management, and a posh gala evening thrown in for good measure. And fresh was of course there to cover it throughout.
We produced both photography and video of a number of the key activities, ultimately delivering a photo slideshow and a summary video to be shown at the awards evening. Which of course (red carpet and all) we also covered and then produced a subsequent edit (some cracking input on the editing here from the cucumber-cool graduate Alex Hacking). And as if that wasn’t enough, we’re now in the process of producing a lovely book with the photographs to give people a memento that little bit more special.
Here’s the full video edit, and we’ll keep you posted about that book.
